After successfully navigating the group stages the Wigston College year 11 football team were drawn in the Semi-final of the Leicester Cup against Brockington – a team that we have never played before. The first twenty minutes of the match was an incredibly close affair, with neither team being able to take control of the game. Wigston found their rhythm first and was able to snatch two goals in quick succession before adding a third on the stroke of half time, giving Wigston College a commanding 3-0 lead at half time.
Mid way through the second half Brockington scored a free kick, which was completely against the run of play. As Wigston tired, Brockington added a second creating the score to be 3-2 with still two minutes to play. Despite Brockington pushing hard for an equaliser Wigston defended superbly eventually winning the fixture 3-2.
Wigston will now play Robert Smyth in the final. Details will follow when a date and venue has been set.
