U19 boys table tennis team into the last 16 in the Country!

After qualifying for the zonal finals, the boys were keen to prove themselves in the tournament on Sunday in at the regional table tennis centre in Grantham. The boys played well and were in a good position coming into their final game, against Ashby, the team who in the previous round they had beaten. The games were very close and it was 3-3 going into the final round. This pattern continued, and the final score was tied at 4-4. However, on countback the Wigston College boys had won significantly more games, so achieved second place overall and a place in the last 16 in the country!

Congratulations to Aman Rashid, Dan Pearson, Adam Green and Max Huggins.

Wigston Back to Winning Ways!

Wigston College returned to winning ways with a 1-0 victory over Gateway College. The visitors clearly came with a game plan which was to simply frustrate the attacking flair of Wigston College. Gateway College came with a view to play for a 0-0 draw by having 9 players in defence! Wigston found this very difficult to break down and the score remained goalless at the half time interval. It was a piece of pure genius that eventually beat the Gateway goalkeeper. Goodson hit a 30 yard into the top right corner of the net. It looked like the keeper was going to save it, but at the last minute pulled his arms away, and to his disappointment, he saw the ball nestle in the net.

Wigston will approach the next fixture full of confidence.
