AS/A2 Health and Social Care

COURSE DETAILS

Students who are interested in caring professions, social work, teaching, psychology, child care, nursing including midwifery, sociology, elderly care or mental health care.

Work can be independent and involves research skills. Discussion plays a vital role in the delivery of the course. Students who are capable of giving opinions and interpreting factual material will do well.

Students that have taken the subject at GCSE must have grades CC or above in Health and Social Care and grade C in English Language.

Is the subject open to students that have not taken HSC at GCSE? – Yes

Students that are new to the subject must have grade C in both English Language and Maths.

ASSESSMENT:

At AS and A2 level there are three units for each:

OCR Advanced Subsidiary GCE [AS] in Health and Social Care H103

  • Promoting Quality Care [Externally tested]
  • Communication in Care Settings [Portfolio]
  • Promoting good health [Portfolio]

OCR Advanced GCE [A2] in Health and Social Care H503

  • Care Practice and Provision [Portfolio]
  • Anatomy and Physiology in Practice. [Externally tested]
  • Understanding Human Behaviour [Externally Tested]

Other AS/A2 courses that could be chosen to accompany this course where there is a degree of overlap are; Sociology, Psychology, Biology and PE.
