COURSE DETAILS

Dance at Wigston College offers students the opportunity to explore their creativity, develop their performance skills and learn to appreciate Contemporary Dance.

The GCSE Dance Course consists of three components:

Performance (40%)

  • Set study (20%) – the student is required to perform a solo dance of approximately 1-1 ½ minutes set by the teacher.
  • Group Performance (20%) – students are assessed on performance skills in a duo/group dance related to a set professional work.

Choreography (40%)

Students are required to compose two dances. A solo composition task (15%) based on one of the professional works. Each student also choreographs a solo or group dance in response to a stimulus (25%).

Critical Appreciation of Dance/Written Paper (20%)

Students are required to answer questions on two professional works chosen by the tutor.

HOW YOU WILL BE ASSESSED

The course consists of 80% practical work assessing student’s choreography skills and performance skills and 20% for the written paper based on two professional works selected by the teacher.

HOW WILL IT HELP ME AT POST 16?

Students gain a sound knowledge and understanding of Contemporary Dance whilst gaining confidence and improving technical skills that can be developed further at AS and A2 level at Wigston College.
