Information Technology is one of the subjects that is studied as part of the ‘core rotation’ programme at Wigston College during years 10 and 11. Rotations generally run from September to January and from February to July.
In Core IT learners are provided with “every-day” scenarios that need to be solved using ICT. Learners are given the opportunity to gain an ICT Functional Skills qualification. Functional skills are based on a problem solving approach and learners who are ‘functionally skilled’ are able to use and apply the English/mathematics/ICT they know to tackle problems that arise in their life and work. Depending on their skills, students undergo a two hour practical exam at either Level 1 or Level 2.
