GCSE Electronic Products

Course details

The course will give students a working knowledge and understanding of electronics, as well as developing designing and making skills. The course is perhaps best suited to students who enjoy designing and making and who are good at science and maths. The course content is very challenging, but highly rewarding, enabling students to develop functioning electronic systems, incorporating them into working products. The course involves a considerable amount of theory which is reinforced by practical work.

In Year 10 a number of topics will be covered include:

* electronic sensors
* micro controllers
* digital counters
* logic systems
* CAD/CAM.

How you will be assessed
(controlled assessment)

Starting at Easter of Year 10, students will use their knowledge and understanding to design and make a fully functioning electronic product, which is worth 60% of the final GCSE mark. Students will sit one end of course examination that accounts for a further 40% of the total.

How will it help me at Post-16?

This course is excellent preparation for students who wish to take A Level Systems and Control, or A Level Product Design.

**Please note that this is a guided option as students generally require Level 6 in Mathematics at Year 9 in order to cope with the course. Please discuss this with your High School teacher.**
