What is the course all about?

Over the A Level course, you will explore:
Component 1: Recording (20%)
Coursework based component. Working in the studio to capture, edit, process and mix an audio recording.
Component 2: Technology-Based Composition (20%)
Coursework based component. Creating, editing, manipulating and structuring sounds to produce a technology-based composition.
Component 3: Listening and Analysing (25%)
Externally examined unit. The exam will test your knowledge of recording and production techniques and principles, in the context of unfamiliar commercial recording provided on a CD. This is tested through short and extended answer written questions.
Component 4: Producing and Analysing (35%)
Externally examined unit. The exam will test your knowledge and understanding of editing, mixing and production techniques, to be applied to unfamiliar multi-track materials.
There are short and extended response written questions and also practical tasks for you to carry out in software to effect and manipulate the provided multi-tack audio and MIDI files.
Component 1, 2 and 4 will all be completed using ‘Cubase Pro’ Digital Audio Workstation software.
