Dear Parents and Carers,
As Headteacher of Wigston Academy and Wigston College is my great pleasure to welcome everyone back to the start of the new year. I would particularly like to welcome our new staff and new Year 7 students who we look forward to getting to know well and working with.
I hope that the summer gave your child time to relax, recharge and reflect on their aspirations ready to start back to school with a positive attitude and focus on hard work.
I would like to congratulate all of those students who received their exam results this summer at the College and wish them well in the next stage of their careers. It was testament to them and their teachers that Wigston College was judged to be in the top 10 schools in Leicester and Leicestershire.
An the end of last term I wrote to you outlining my priorities for the Academy and College and want to reinforce our key priorities are focused on achieving the best results we can for our students and ensuing that they are happy and well cared for. We are confident that a strict, fair and firm approach to uniform and behaviour are key to achieving this and I would like to thank you in advance of your support with these. It is when we work together in partnership that we can truly support our young people to be successful and employment ready.
I would like to thank all of those parents who responded to the questionnaire that I sent out at the end of last term, we have sent the forms off for external evaluation. I will also be introducing some parents information evenings to help keep parents informed about what is happening at the Academy along with an open morning where parents will be able to come and see the Academy in action (Wednesday 20th September 9am -11am). Please see below for a list of these and other key dates and times for the coming half term.

There have been a number of changes to the timetable and systems at the Academy over the summer, which will help to ensure the smooth running of the Academy. To ensure that our Year 10 and 11 students have access to the best equipment and facilities, for example computing and triple science, a number of Key Stage 4 students will be attending some of their lessons at the College site. A new pathway and route has been built to enable the students to travel quickly between the buildings.
With best wishes for a successful start to the new academic year,
Mr M Wilson
