Foundation Learning BTEC Public Services
This course aims to prepare students for work in the Public Services Sector and provides education and training for employees in the public sector
Gives the opportunity to achieve a nationally recognised Level “vocationally specific qualification”.
Foundation Learning allows students to study the following;
· GCSE English Language
· GCSE Mathematics
· Double Science
· Core Studies
· A PE Option
· An ‘Arts’ option choice
· Two option choices
To be considered for the scheme students must have a reasonable attendance and behavior record at high school and be willing and able to maintain this throughout their time at Wigston College. This is important because if they are out of college they will be seen as, not only ambassadors of Wigston, but also representing their parents and most importantly themselves.
Students will be recommended for the Foundation Skills course by their high school. Staff at Wigston College will interview potential students during the spring term.
Benefits of BTEC
The BTEC Public Services Course allows students to gain experience in a range of areas which can then help them when making decisions regarding employment or further education at 16.

Having been designed in collaboration with industry the course can equip students with the skills and knowledge that employers are looking for.
