The Performing Arts and Wigston College are synonymous and our reputation in the Arts is first rate. Long before the College became recognised as a DfE Arts College, Wigston College outperformed other schools and colleges in dance, drama and music. Since 1999 Performing Arts has become the driver for improvement reflected in our OfSTED reports in repeated Arts Mark Gold Awards, involvement in the Creative Partnership Change School Programme and successful re-designation as an Arts College in 2004, 2007 and 2010.
Our facilities are first rate and we have benefited from private bequests and the support of EMI. We have an excellent hall and stage, lecture theatre, three drama and two dance studios and a recording studio and music and media technology labs.
Performing Arts offers a wide community programme. The Leicester & Philharmonic Choir are in residency at the College, rehearsing each Monday and offering projects for community singing such as “Lets Sing”.
In addition SWM Theatre Company, Wigston School of Dance, Wigston Male Voice choir, Stage Coach, Leicestershire Arts and many other creative performers and practitioners are regular users of the College. This provides a wealth of opportunity for community users of all ages and performing arts abilities. Please check the website for forthcoming events.
In addition to the external users of the College, there is a full programme of arts activities across the College. This includes Christmas Celebrations and Bye Bye Blues Concerts, the Annual College Musical, the Platform and Acoustic Evening Events and many other dance, drama, music, media and visual arts showcases throughout the year. Watch this space for future opportunities.
