There are two units as follows:
Unit 1: Materials, Components and Application.
This unit helps students to develop an understanding of the physical properties of a broad range of ingredients and components as well as why these are used in specific applications.
Unit 2: Learning through Designing and Making
In this unit students will be expected to carry out a design and make task in a human context.
There are also two units as follows:
Unit 3: Design and Manufacture
In this unit students will build on the knowledge and understanding gained at AS level and will extend this to the application of Food Science as well as nutritional principles
Unit 4: Design and Making Practice
This is the design and make unit where knowledge of the AS and A2 subject content is applied to the design and manufacture of the students own project
Unit 2 & 4 are internally assessed and account for 25% each
Unit 1 & 3 are externally assessed and also account for 25% each
What could I go on to do after the course?
There are many careers that a Food Technology course could lead to including:
* Food retailing
* Nutrition & Dietetics
* Environmental Health
* Laboratory work
There are also many degree courses in Food, as well as Food related disciplines.
